Event Details
Explore the strength and versatility of English bulrush and make a placemat or two coasters. During the workshop you will learn some rush weaving techniques and be guided to make your projects to your own design.
The techniques you learn can be carried forward after the workshop and are applicable to any soft plant fibre weaving - materials such as yellow flag iris, cattails, daffodil stems offer different colours and textures.
Suitable for beginners or intermediate rush weavers interested in this design. Manual dexterity is required.
Rush is a soft material that is worked wet and is a little muddy so wear appropriate clothing and bring an apron if you wish. Please bring a chair and a tray so the weaving can be worked flat on your lap. All other equipment and materials will be provided.
Katrina Green is a rush basketmaker and chair seater based in West Oxfordshire, she uses rush harvested in the south east and east of England. She always has one eye on the hedgerow and enjoys using what can be sustainably and responsibly sourced from our surroundings.
